2019 was a disaster for me on the ice. I was picking at a 35% success rate, which is horrendous. Early season NHL is tough but I have to be better. So far in 2020 I’m even at 13-13 looking for more W’s in the column on the left. These are my trends to be better in 2020 for the Basement.

Continue to fade Detroit and Ottawa. My high school hockey team that was worse than the D5 Mighty Ducks team that was playing with football helmets on a pond instead of a rink could beat these two teams. These two teams are just struggling and will continue to struggle their way to Top 3 Lottery picks in this years draft. Take opposition money line (full unit) and puck line (half unit) when playing Ottawa and Detroit.

Leafs & Panthers Overs and Caps PL. Free money has been given out by the high octane offenses of Toronto and Florida, both of whom average 3.6 goals per game while also allowing over 3 goals per game against opponents. The Capitals on the other hand do not allow 3 goals a game, but they often beat teams by 2 or more so ride them puck line in most games, especially at home.

Playoff Futures: Looking at both conferences it’s a dog fight per usual. In the East, value lies with the Capitals at +500 and a sleeper pick in Toronto at +800 to win the East. Out West is a bit trickier but I like 2 teams from the Central with Dallas (+600) and the sneaky, sneaky Winnipeg Jets at +2000 to win the West. The Pacific just doesn’t have enough firepower and goaltending to win the conference.
