The Beanpot is historically great. Four Boston universities that get to play two semi final games on a Monday at TD Garden with city college pride on the line as the winners go to the Final on February 10th. Not too much better in college hockey besides going to a Frozen Four and winning a National Championship.
Yesterday in the first semifinal Northeastern skated by Harvard 3-1, and in the prime time game Boston University gave Battle of Comm Ave rival Boston College a 5-4 double OT loss in a game many view as the best game in the Beanpot, even if it’s just the semifinal. However the loss doesn’t go against the Eagles record because the game went to 2 overtime’s which is a rule I never thought could exist but more power to the Beanpot.
Next Monday, February 10th, BU will take on Northeastern in the 68th Beanpot Final. BU has 30 Beanpot titles to Northeasterns’ 6, the most and the fewest titles among all Beanpot teams respectively.. BU actually defeated Northeastern 4-1 in the first ever Beanpot game in 1952, but will that history repeat itself? According to the stats, Yes.
BU is 37- 10 in the Beanpot against Northeastern. It pains me to do it cause I’m a BC guy by blood, but I’m going with the Terriers as the 2020 Beanpot Champs.
