Welcome back to volume 18 of today with baseball. For those who are unfamiliar with what the phrase means. Check out the intro blog here.
Today’s Moment? Jayson Werth Stealing home for his 4th steal of the game.
The Phillies bomb squad that dominated the NL East from 07′-11′ to this day is my favorite team of all time. The front office idea of developing an offense and then buying pitching I think is a system that should be adopted by every front office in baseball. The Phillies did just that and saw a stretch of 5 straight division titles, back to back pennants, a World Series win and a few Hall of Famers along the way.
As great as all the Hall of Famers and first round picks are, championship teams are assembled with your middle-of-the-pack journeyman MLB starters. Of course you need a Jimmy Rollins or a Cole Hamels, but you also need a Shane Victorino and a Jayson Werth.

Jayson Werth was one of my favorite players on that Phillies squad. It made it so much harder to pitch around certain guys when a lineup is that deep. It’s a shame that Werth finally started to peak as a player towards the end of his time in Philly. I wish he was a Phillie longer but I get it, he won a ring so that was valuable to other teams and he deserved to be paid as one of the top guys in a lineup. Also, don’t fuck your teammates wife and maybe you’ll stick around one city for much longer.
Philly always gets a bad rap when it comes to sports, but almost all of the athletes that play here say if you hustle and give 100% you’ll feel the love back and that’s exactly the type of player Werth was. Everyday he was in the lineup, you knew he’d bring the hustle and spark to elevate the other guys around him.
Also, any fans that thought they were hot shit by boo’ing Werth every time he returned, you just look dumb. Dude won a ring for us and then got a bag – a bag he was never going to get in Philly. The same reason why Rendon won’t get boo’d whenever he returns to D.C. It’s not that hard guys.
You also can’t bring up Jayson Werth without remembering that time he took some Jabroni deep in men’s league fast pitch.
Shoutout Jonny Heller for the clip of Werth’s epic performance on the base paths against the Dodgers. Give Heller and Phillies Nation a follow for more Phillies content.
