For the past month, one of the most successful podcasts in the country decided to stop recording podcasts and no one knew the reason why. This podcast is a Barstool Sports podcast called Call Her Daddy, hosted by Sofia Franklyn and Alexandra Cooper. To be honest, I never listened to this podcast and I have only seen clips of their episodes on the main Barstool Sports instagram account. From what I have seen they talk about sex and then some more sex. The podcast has a cult following and you could find it at the top of podcast charts every week, but why did they stop recording? Yesterday, we found out the answer to that question when the president of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, released an episode on Call Her Daddy’s platform explaining what was going on. Long story short, the girls wanted out of Barstool Sports after the first year because they believed they were being underpaid. So they began to negotiate and the negotiations kept getting more and more absurd because of Sofia Franklyn’s boyfriend, Peter Nelson. Ironic, huh? They talk about how they control men yet the whole time a man was ruining their careers. Theres much more to the story but that brings up the question, are these girls underpaid?
Before you come to a conclusion, you have to take into consideration that this is their first year as a Barstool Podcast. Before Barstool signed them they did not have a massive following like they do now. Sofia and Alexandra were offered a base salary around $500,000 dollars each in negotiations. On top of that they would also get incentives, a shortened contract, their show’s IP, percentage boost on merchandise, etc.. They declined and still believe they are underpaid. Well Let’s compare what they made last year with famous athletes first year salaries.
Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen First Year Earnings: $1.3 million

Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, the greatest basketball duo in the world made pretty much the same amount of money that Alex and Sofia made last year ($1.1 million) in their rookie campaigns. Granted now, MJ and Pippen would make millions for being picked in the first round of the draft so let’s take a look at some current athletes.
Pete Alonso Rookie Contract: $550,000
Yes Pete Alonso, the guy who broke the rookie home run record last year, one of the best first basemen in the MLB was getting paid the same amount of money that the Call Her Daddy girls were making last year. Also Meaty Pete is a teammate of Noah Syndergaard, Alex’s ex boyfriend, so maybe Noah can set them up to talk about being “underpaid”.
Lamar Jackson First Year Earnings: $480,000
MVP Lamar Jackson made less than both of the Call Her Daddy girls his first year in the league. It seems like Lamar is going to end up being just fine. Imagine if Lamar Jackson’s girlfriend didn’t believe he was being paid enough and made him quit football.
Cody Bellinger First Year Earnings: $605,000
Speaking of MVPs Cody Bellinger. Bellinger won rookie of the year in 2017 and was being paid around $100,000 more than the Call Her Daddy Girls in his rookie year. Hitting 39 homers and batting in 100 runs at the highest level is definitely pretty solid. Podcasting is tough tho.
Juan Soto First Year Earnings: $578,300
Juan Soto, World Series champion at the age of 20 years old. That kind of makes me feel like garbage. What am I doing with my life. We got Juan a year younger than me winning the World Series and I’m here blogging and podcasting about guys like him. I guess someone has to do the dirty work so kudos to me I guess. But yeah, he made around the same as the Call Her Daddy Girls as well.
Conclusion
The new deal that Portnoy (my president) made to them was through the roof for what they do. They would be getting $500,000 GUARANTEED for a year. To put that in perspective, the girls’ base salary last year was $70,000 and with incentives they made around $500,000 dollars. This new deal would guarantee them the amount of money they made last year, give them the IP, and increased percentage on all their merchandise. They would easily clear $1 million in earnings for the year. I am a podcaster myself and I do everything that they do for fun and I do not complain (please don’t call me a hero). I understand that podcasting is tough and people deserve to be paid for the work that they do and the revenue that they provide but $500,000 a year to talk once a week for 45 minutes about sexual experiences is WILD. THEY ARE CRAZY FOR TURNING THIS DEAL DOWN!
