Before I get into the blog, I’d like to take this time to pour one out for an OG of the game. They were around for 28 years, long before the MLS was in existence. It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the Montreal Impact. No they haven’t folded, but they’ve changed their iconic name for the fancy pants, wanna-be-euro name or Club de Foot Montreal.

I dig the rebrand cause it’s Montreal, but now I’m realizing I have MAJOR gripes with some of the new MLS team names. Austin FC, Charlotte FC, etc. As a matter of fact, if your MLS team has “FC” in it, I think it doesn’t count if your team wins a title. Who are you trying to impress ? Europe ?

This is Major League Soccer. Not Major League Football. Stop trying to be something you’re not. People forget the Crew won the MLS Cup this year, and they are the Columbus Crew SC. Winners use “SC”, and those who use “FC” are phonies. I’m not asking much out of these clubs, I’m only asking you to change that lousy F to a S for the good of the game.

The following clubs are on my list. I’ve now put a curse on all these squads until they change their name: Atalanta United FC, Austin FC, Charlotte FC, Chicago Fire FC (go back to your old logo, cowards), FC Cincinnati, FC Dallas, LAFC, Houston Dynamo FC, Minnesota United FC, NYCFC, Seattle Sounders FC, Toronto FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

I’m sorry I had curse almost half of the league, but that’s just the way it has to be until something is done to preserve the great American tradition of soccer. If you want to be a football club in American go ask Roger Goodell if you can join the NFL, but until tht day happens, you should be a soccer club in the MLS.
